Corey Parker, 27, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after a violent clash with his girlfriend over financial woes. The incident took place in their Rhydyfelin home when Parker, fuelled by anger after a failed attempt to secure money from his mother, turned on his girlfriend. Their argument spiralled out of control, leading Parker to strangle her for several seconds, leaving her gasping for air.

Not stopping there, Parker also seized her mobile, threatening to sell it to prevent her from calling the police. In a fit of rage, he hurled a table into the TV, shattering it. The victim, who suffered bruises and neck reddening, managed to escape to a neighbour’s house, where help was finally summoned.

Parker, who fled the scene with a bottle of vodka, was later arrested at his mother’s residence. With a history of violent offences, including battery and assaulting an emergency worker, Parker pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation, theft, and criminal damage in court. While he read out an apology letter claiming personal struggles, including losing his father at a young age, the judge, Rhys Rowlands, handed down the sentence and imposed a four-year restraining order.
