Heartbreak in Cardiff đź’”: Imagine chatting on the phone with your mum and suddenly, she just goes silent. That’s what happened when Elinor was on a call with her mum, Jan Forster. At first, they thought it was just anaemia making Jan feel tired, but it turned out to be something much more serious—a grade 4 glioblastoma, a type of brain tumour.

Jan, an 84-year-old retired civil servant from Pontcanna, had been living her best life, enjoying her retirement and spending quality time with her grandchildren. But in late 2023, when Jan suddenly put the phone down on her daughter, things changed. An MRI at University Hospital Wales revealed the devastating truth, leaving the family with the heart-wrenching decision of how to spend her final months.
Jan chose time with her family over treatment, embracing every moment with her loved ones. She moved to Ty Llandaff Care Home when her condition worsened and passed away peacefully at home in March 2024, just three months after her diagnosis, surrounded by family.

Elinor, alongside her daughter Annabel, is stepping forward for change in honour of her mum. They’re taking part in the national Walk of Hope in the New Forest to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research. They’ve already raised a significant sum, driven by the need for better treatments and more extensive research. Elinor stresses that brain tumours are more common than we think, yet funding is shockingly low.

Let’s stand with them as they raise awareness and funds to ensure other families don’t endure the same heartbreak. Jan’s memory lives on through her family’s determination and love. This isn’t just a story about loss; it’s about hope, action, and making a difference for future generations.
