Tragic news has struck the cricket community as Umar Mahmood, known for his appearance on Freddie Flintoff’s “Field of Dreams,” has sadly passed away in a car crash in Preston. Umar, who was just 15 when he appeared on the popular BBC series, was well-loved for his bright spirit and dedication, both academically and in sports.

The incident occurred on Chain Caul Way where the vehicle he was in left the road, resulting in the tragic deaths of both Umar and his friend Adam Bodi, 16. Another teen involved is currently hospitalised with serious injuries.

Freddie Flintoff’s “Field of Dreams” is gearing up for its third series, looking to make a big impact in the north-west of England by fostering cricket talent in Manchester, Liverpool, and for the first time, forming a girls’ team in Blackpool. Flintoff has been hailed for his dedication to the sport and the young talents he mentors, truly inspiring transformations in their lives.
As Freddie’s show returns to inspire and engage, our thoughts turn to the families and friends of Umar and Adam, who are dealing with unimaginable loss. Umar’s former school, Penwortham Priory Academy, remembered him fondly: “Umar was a bright, studious and well-loved member of our community. A privilege to know, he showed ambition and kindness in all he did.”
These heartfelt words echo the sentiments of many who knew these promising young men. As the community rallies to support those affected, it’s a poignant reminder of the impact and love they spread in their short lives.
