🚴‍♂️ Cardiff turns into a sea of emotion as Welsh cycling legend, Geraint Thomas, rides his final professional race! 🌟

The streets were packed with fans cheering on their hero as the 39-year-old superstar completed the sixth and last stage of the Tour of Britain. Starting from Newport, the journey was filled with breathtaking sights, including the iconic climb of Caerphilly Mountain, before finishing on North Road right outside the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Known affectionately as “G,” Thomas is a true national treasure. His accomplishments include three World Championships, two Olympic gold medals, and the honour of being the first Welshman ever to wear the Tour de France’s yellow jersey, which he went on to win in 2018.
After crossing the finish line, an emotional farewell event took place at Cardiff Castle, attracting 4,000 fans to celebrate his stunning career. Thomas expressed his gratitude with a bottle of champagne in hand, posting: “I don’t really have any words right now. But, if you were in Cardiff today… Cheers.”
As he rode into Cardiff, giant images of his face adorned the route, bringing his epic journey to a surreal yet fitting close. One of the most special touches was having his son, Mac, old enough to remember this monumental day.
Although he wasn’t the frontrunner in this race, it was all about celebrating him. The day wrapped up with a heartwarming cwtch from Wales’ First Minister, Eluned Morgan, who presented him with awards.
Geraint Thomas, thank you for the memories, the legacy, and the inspiration you’ve given to so many. Cardiff and the world salute you! 🥂💙
