Rhys Patchell, the renowned Wales rugby star, has announced his retirement at the age of 32. Stepping off the field, he’s now set to kick-start a new chapter as the kicking coach for the Dragons. Patchell, who dazzled fans as both a skilled outside-half and full-back, earned 22 caps for Wales and enjoyed successful stints with Cardiff, Scarlets, Japanese club NEC Green Rockets, and the Highlanders in New Zealand.

Looking back, Patchell cites his perseverance and the support from those around him as key highlights. “Playing for Wales and competing on the world stage were unforgettable, but it’s the people—coaches, teammates, fans—that made it all memorable,” he shared.
His exciting year in Japan with NEC Green Rockets will be spotlighted in an upcoming S4C documentary. Now, as part of Filo Tiatia’s backroom team, Patchell will be working closely with players like Tinus de Beer, Angus O’Brien, and more, bringing valuable international experience to the team.

“Having played at the highest level, Rhys brings vast knowledge and experience,” said Dragons head coach, Tiatia. The club believes his young, enthusiastic approach will greatly benefit the squad. Here’s to thriving in your new role, Rhys! 🏉 #DragonsRugby #RhysPatchell #RugbyFamily
