Wales faced off against Canada at the Swansea.com Stadium, but it wasn’t the homecoming fans hoped for. A cracking free-kick from Canada’s Derek Cornelius in the first half made all the difference, leading to a 1-0 win for the visitors. The Welsh side, managed by Craig Bellamy, handed debuts to Ronan Kpakio, Joel Colwill, and Kai Andrews.

Canada brought their A-game early, with Ismael Kone hitting the post and Tajon Buchanan causing headaches for the Welsh defence. Wales had their chances too—Dan James almost got one past Canadian keeper Dayne St. Clair, and Mark Harris’ overhead kick was cleared heroically off the line by Canadian defender Luc De Fougerolles.
Even though Bellamy’s squad showed moments of promise, they just couldn’t find the back of the net. Frustrations rose, as seen with several players receiving bookings, and even Canadian manager Jesse Marsch getting a caution. Substitutions sparked some energy with the introduction of Sorba Thomas and Lewis Koumas later in the game, but Canada’s defence held firm.

Despite a second-half push, including a near miss at the death by Mark Harris, Wales couldn’t find an equaliser. This friendly highlighted some gaps for Bellamy’s men to work on, but also offered a glimpse at the potential of their fresh faces.
