Heartbreaking Loss: Grandad Dies from Bowel Cancer After Misdiagnosis đź’”

James Beasley, a beloved grandad from Rotherham, lost his battle with bowel cancer at 68 after doctors initially misdiagnosed his symptoms as haemorrhoids—not once, but twice. James first visited his GP in March 2020, concerned about rectal bleeding, but was sent home without an examination. Nine months later, he returned with more alarming symptoms like constipation and abdominal pain. A blood test pointed to anaemia, a possible sign of bowel cancer, but it went unnoticed.

It wasn’t until August 2021 when James finally received the devastating diagnosis: terminal bowel cancer. He bravely underwent palliative chemotherapy, but in January 2022 was given just a year to live, passing away in February 2023. James left behind a loving family, including his wife Christine, daughters Jane and Amanda, and cherished grandchildren.

His daughter Jane shares: “Dad trusted the doctors. We were shattered to learn it was cancer, even more so that it was terminal. Dad always cared more about us, even in his final days,” she adds, reminiscing about James’s selflessness.
Jane and her family sought answers, appointing medical negligence specialists who secured an out-of-court settlement, though the GPs denied liability. Through their legal representatives, the GPs expressed deep sorrow for James’s outcome.
Emily Mansfield, the family’s lawyer, hopes James’s story raises awareness about bowel cancer. “Their grief is compounded by unresolved questions about his care. We’re relieved the family received some closure.”
Jane urges everyone to be vigilant about symptoms like unexplained bleeding, bowel habit changes, or rapid weight loss—early detection is crucial. “Sharing Dad’s story was about making a difference. If we can prevent another family from enduring this, it will be worth it.”
Let James’s story be a reminder to trust your instincts and push for thorough medical checks. It’s about saving lives. 🌟
