In true Welsh style, a bridge in Pontllanffraith, South Wales, has caught everyone’s attention with a unique and humorous display of flags from around the world. The cheeky message “Flags is it?” is the perfect response to the recent surge of England flags and Union Jacks being put up as political symbols across the UK.

Locals have been thrilled by the colourful statement, especially given the unsettling sight of St George’s crosses and even some Nazi-style symbols appearing in other areas this summer. Residents in places like Henllys and Maesteg have rallied against such graffiti, removing offensive symbols and reclaiming their public spaces.

The vibrant flag display on the bridge has sparked waves of positivity online, with photos being shared widely. Comments poured in describing the scene as “wonderful,” “encouraging,” and even “glorious.” One admirer said it was just what they needed to lift their spirits.
While it’s still a mystery who put up these global flags, one thing’s for sure – the gesture has brought a big smile to many faces and a bit of much-needed humour to the community. Sadly, the flags have since been taken down, but the joy they brought will surely linger.
