🚗 Big Changes on Welsh Roads! 🚗

A significant update for drivers across Wales as a Welsh council reverts 52 roads back to a 30mph speed limit. Originally, the default speed was changed to 20mph in September 2023, leading to heated debates and a petition with massive public support. Despite evidence suggesting fewer crashes, the national shift sparked divided opinions.
Councils had the power to maintain 30mph limits, but not everyone used it the same way. Some, like Cyngor Gwynedd, kept over 80 roads at 30mph, while others had much fewer exceptions.

The momentous decision to adjust speed limits came under Transport Minister Ken Skates, leading to more roads reverting to 30mph. Some of the road sections switching back include Amlwch A5025, Newborough A4080, and several Cardiff routes like Newport Road and Western Avenue.
Notably, Wrexham Council spearheaded this change, successfully altering 52 sections with new 30mph signs already installed. But not everyone is convinced it will work smoothly. One sceptic voiced, “They’re living in cloud cuckoo land if they think everyone will stick to the limits.” Another added, “What a waste of taxpayers’ money!”

Deputy Leader Councillor David A Bithell noted that the council has listened to concerns and aims to ensure driver compliance through the collaboration with North Wales Police GoSafe team. They’re focusing on education and enforcement to keep roads safe.
These changes reflect responses from community feedback, and aim to address safety concerns while balancing the practicality of speed limits. What do you think about these traffic updates? Are you in favour of the 30mph shift or prefer the calmer 20mph pace? Share your thoughts! 🏁 #WelshRoads #SpeedLimitChange #SafetyFirst
