Exciting news! Cardiff’s popular Bute Park gigs are making a comeback next year, despite a bit of controversy. After a thorough review of this summer’s events at Blackweir Fields, the city council has decided to bring back these open-air concerts. But not everyone is thrilled; there have been some noise complaints and grumbles about traffic chaos from the closure of North Road. Some park-goers feel their chill-out space got a bit squashed too.

The council is keeping mum on how much cash these gigs have raked in but has big plans for the funds. The money will pump new life into Cardiff’s music scene, supporting grassroots venues and the ‘Little Gigs’ scheme. Plus, parks and green spaces will get some love too—think new park signs and enhancements to the ancient woodland up at Blackweir Fields.
Jennifer Burke, head of parks and culture, praised the concerts for boosting the city’s vibe and economy, noting city centre sales shot up by 15.6% compared to last year. The gigs drew huge crowds, with almost half of the attendees travelling from outside Wales. Music icons like Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Slayer, and Stevie Wonder made an appearance, making it a music fest to remember.

The council acknowledges the concerns about traffic, parking, noise, and park access, promising to address these in future events. They’re planning to keep the concert buzz under 28 days, including setup and takedown, which might save them from needing extra planning permission.
All in all, Cardiff’s gearing up for another season of fantastic live performances while striving to balance the groove with the green. Cheers to another summer of tunes, talks, and tweaks!
