**Justice Served: Couple Found Guilty of Horrendous Crime in Bridgend**

In an appalling case out of Bridgend, Robert Ellis-Evans, 39, and Sarah Vigus, 38, were found guilty of raping a 17-year-old girl. The teenager had passed out after drinking vodka shots, only to wake up in the midst of a terrifying assault. Vigus held her down while Ellis-Evans assaulted her, leaving the young woman traumatised.

During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that the defendants had expressed a sexual interest in their victim prior to the incident. The court heard how the teen woke to find Vigus holding her down and Ellis-Evans violating her. Despite their claims of consensual acts, the jury delivered a guilty verdict, affirming the victim’s account of the terrifying ordeal.
The emotional toll on the victim was made evident in her personal statement read during the hearing. “Every day, I think about what happened; it’s had a massive effect on my mental health,” she courageously shared. Her words highlighted the profound and lasting impact the attack has had on her life—leaving her feeling unsafe, uncomfortable in her own skin, and struggling to reclaim a sense of normalcy.
The court sentenced both Ellis-Evans and Vigus to eight years and three months in prison, with the stipulation that they serve two-thirds of the sentence before being eligible for release on license. Additionally, they’ll have to abide by lifelong sex offender notification requirements and a restraining order.
DC Jessica Pritchard from South Wales Police praised the victim’s strength and resilience throughout the investigation and court proceedings. She also acknowledged the courage it takes for victims of such horrific crimes to engage with police investigations and endure the courtroom process.
This case serves as a chilling reminder of the vile nature of sexual offences and the strength required to fight for justice. Our thoughts are with the victim as she begins to rebuild her life. Let’s hope this verdict brings her a sense of justice and peace. If you or someone you know is affected by similar issues, support is available through organisations like Samaritans.
