🚫☕ Plans for a new coffee shop and drive-through in Llandarcy, Neath Port Talbot, have been turned down by the Welsh Government. The proposed site, just off the B4290 and near junction 43 of the M4, was speculated to potentially host a popular coffee chain like Starbucks. 📍 No lattes or cappuccinos for this spot as safety concerns and lack of policy alignment brought the planning application to a halt. It was initially knocked back by Neath Port Talbot Council due to its conflict with strategic planning policies and potential impact on highway and pedestrian safety. The developers, LP2 Ltd, tried to appeal, but the inspector upheld the decision in July 2025. 🚧

The proposed drive-through was planned to sit next to a 16-bay electric vehicle charging station and would have benefited from its proximity to the Coed Darcy Village, which is expanding with 4,000 new homes. However, the appeal was shot down partly because LP2 Ltd couldn’t justify why the development was necessary at this location and how it wouldn’t negatively affect the countryside and safety. 🏡
🚗✨ Meanwhile, over in Aberavon, plans for a new Aldi and another Starbucks are brewing on the vacant Burrows Yard site. It’s a tale of two coffee spots, showing how location can make all the difference when it comes to planning success. What do you think about these plans? Would you like to see a drive-through coffee spot in your area? ☕🌳
