Broadcaster Chris Evans has found himself on the sidelines of the Alfred Dunhill Links tournament once more. The pro-am event, known for its star-studded lineup, including tennis ace Andy Murray, has returned to the Scottish greens. But Evans, who famously won the tournament in 2011 alongside pro golfer Nick Dougherty with an astonishing 40-under-par finish, won’t be there.

The buzz around Evans’ exclusion isn’t new. Back in the day, after snagging victory and setting a tournament record, eyebrows were raised about his 10 handicap. Despite taking time off his radio gig to defend his title the following year, Evans was told he was no longer welcome. Reflecting on the ban, Evans compared it to playground politics, saying, “If we were kids, the boy who owns the ball just took it home in a huff.”

The event remains packed with celebrities, even without Evans. This year’s lineup boasts acting royalty Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, comedy legend Bill Murray, and music icon Huey Lewis. Sports stars like five-time Olympic gold medallist Steve Redgrave and cricket veterans Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan are also taking part. Not to mention, Murray is eyeing up a future place at The Open!
The pro-am isn’t lacking in individual talent either, with Tyrell Hatton taking a swing at another victory alongside his father. Meanwhile, 2023 champ Matt Fitzpatrick is also hitting the greens with his dad.
It’s all happening at the Alfred Dunhill Links, and while Evans might be crafting his own “Dung Hill Cup” jest, we’re sure he’d rather be swinging clubs than making quips. The tournament rolls on, brimming with talent, competition, and a dash of celebrity glamour. Who will take the crown this year?
