π Is late-night scrolling affecting your mental health? π

New research has unveiled that spending time on social media during the night could have a negative impact on your mental wellbeing. Those who frequently tweet or post between 11pm and 5am are more likely to experience symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The study, conducted by researchers from the University of Bristol, analysed a whopping 18,288 tweets and revealed some eye-opening insights. It suggests that our late-night online activities could disrupt sleep, thanks to the stimulating blue light from our screens which hampers the production of melatonin β the hormone responsible for regulating sleep. As a result, night time social media use may lead to poorer quality of sleep and, in turn, a dip in mental health.

While the focus has often been on how much time we spend on social media, this research highlights the importance of **when** weβre online. Lead author Daniel Joinson emphasised that behaviours like nighttime posting could have specific harmful effects.
So next time you’re tempted to check your feed at midnight, consider swapping screen time for some much-needed shut-eye. ππ€ What are your thoughts on these findings? Let us know in the comments! π¬
