🚨 *Shocking Discovery at Cardiff Nursery* 🚨

Imagine dropping your little one off at nursery and stumbling upon a syringe! This is the reality for parents in Riverside, Cardiff, where local residents are fed up with the growing issues of drug use and anti-social behaviour.

At a recent community meeting, locals shared alarming stories of encountering drug users on the daily walk to school and witnessing fly-tipping and littering. Mum Madeleine McGivern was horrified to find a syringe on the steps of the Green Giraffe Nursery, but was relieved to see the nursery handle the situation swiftly. Yet, this isn’t an isolated incident; even during a day out by the River Taff, Madeleine discovered another syringe uncomfortably close to her child.
Despite these challenges, Madeleine loves her community and sees the positives, but she’s worried. “It feels like it’s getting worse… Taking your children to nursery and finding used drug equipment doesn’t tell you you live in a particularly safe or nice place,” she says. Residents are urging those in power to take decisive action.
Cardiff Council isn’t turning a blind eye. They’ve pledged support for vulnerable residents and are actively working with South Wales Police to tackle street-level drug activity. Their outreach teams are striving daily to help those in need. However, the Council admits that some individuals with complex needs are challenging to reach. They’ve prioritised the removal of any discarded needles, especially near schools and nurseries, to within 24 hours upon reporting.
Sergeant Iain McAllen from South Wales Police echoed these sentiments, confirming ongoing efforts to crack down on anti-social behaviour with an increased presence of plain clothes officers on the streets.
Residents, your voices matter! Keep sharing your experiences and let’s hold authorities accountable to create a safer, cleaner Riverside. 🌿 Together, we can make a difference. 💪🏽
