A new chapter is about to begin for Aberaeron! 📚 Despite a wave of public opposition, a new library is ready to swing open its doors at the council’s HQ in Penmorfa from 1st November. After years of being nestled in the town’s County Hall, the library is moving to a brand new, modern, and accessible space aimed at better serving the community’s needs.

Council members acknowledge it wasn’t an easy decision, with budget savings from 2024 prompting the move. But they insist it’s more than just a change of scenery. The new venue promises to be a lively hub for everyone, offering a wider range of books and resources. Think 3D printing, a dedicated Maker Space, and cosy reading nooks perfect for diving into your favourite book or catching up on some studying. 📖💡

Councillor Catrin Davies highlights the spacious new environment will offer more room to study, socialise, and get creative in a more inclusive setting. This exciting transformation has been partially funded by the Welsh Government’s £212,016 Transformation Capital Grant, aimed at modernising cultural spaces across Wales.
Books currently on loan won’t need returning before the move—due dates will be automatically extended, but you can always return them to any county library if you prefer. The original library will close its doors on 24th October, giving teams time to get everything ready for the big reveal.
Local libraries are vital spaces for learning and connection, and this new facility is set to serve Aberaeron for generations to come. The council is also considering future plans for the old County Hall location and will be discussing options with stakeholders soon.
