In a heartbreaking case from Shetland, a 41-year-old man, Aren Pearson, has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Claire Leveque, 24. The tragic event unfolded in February 2024, when Claire suffered horrific injuries during an attack in a hot tub at a property in the Sandness area.

Pearson was accused of repeatedly striking Claire with knives or similar objects, inflicting blunt force trauma, and submerging her in water. After the attack, he drove his car into the sea at Melby Pier before returning home, where police arrested him.
Detective Inspector Richard Baird described Pearson as “cruel and selfish,” revealing that evidence pointed towards a history of a controlling and abusive relationship. This devastating incident not only shook Claire’s family but also rippled through the tight-knit community of Shetland.

Chief Inspector Chris Sewell reassured residents that such violent crimes are “extremely rare” on the islands. He expressed solidarity with Claire’s family, emphasising community safety and the ongoing commitment to combat violence against women and girls.

This haunting case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic violence and supporting victims. Our thoughts are with Claire’s loved ones during this difficult time. Stay vigilant and take care of each other.
