A dramatic court case is unfolding as a wealthy couple stand trial following the tragic death of their estate worker. Nicholas and Anthea Prest have been accused of failing to ensure proper training and safety measures for their employee, Paul Marsden, who tragically died in 2020 after an accident involving a quad bike at the couple’s luxury mansion in Monmouthshire.

Marsden, who was working as a groundsman, was found crushed under the ATV by a colleague after not returning from his morning tasks. Despite the serious nature of the incident, Mr and Mrs Prest have pleaded not guilty to the health and safety charges against them.

During the court proceedings, Nicholas Prest expressed his shock after initially being informed by police that they were being charged with manslaughter. He recalls the moment as “deeply shocking” and “a ghastly experience,” while maintaining that Marsden was competent in his use of the ATV.
Prosecutors argue that the couple did not provide adequate training or personal protective equipment (PPE) to their workers, which they believe contributed to the tragic accident. The trial continues as both sides present their case. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
