Unexpected Career Twist Strikes Fish & Chip Legacy ๐๐

After decades of serving delicious fish and chips with a side of family tradition, Terri Williams faces a shocking situation. She’s developed an allergy to fish โ a heartbreaking irony for someone who’s dedicated 25 years of her life to perfecting the art of frying cod, hake, and plaice.
Terri, 40, grew up in Powys with the sizzle of fish frying as part of her daily life. Starting at her granddadโs shop at just 12, she eventually took over Hay Takeaway in Hay-on-Wye. Her grandad paid her 50p an hour back in the day, igniting a passion that would run through her family for three generations. Yet now, even the mere smell of fish can cause her throat to swell and a rash to appear.

Imagine being told by a doctor that you need to leave your lifelong passion behind for your health. Terri reminisces, “It’s all I’ve ever known. I just burst into tears. My throat feels like it’s closing; it’s very unpleasant.”
Terri takes antihistamines just to step into her own shop but now knows it’s time to hang up the apron. Despite the itch to carry on, the risk is just too high. “Having a serious allergy is dangerous. I carry an EPI pen at all times,” she shares.
Though none of her four children will continue the family legacy, Terri’s thankful for the countless memories and loyal customers who’ve supported the chippy through the years. The shop is set to reopen under new management on November 1, so fish fans rest assured, you’ll still be able to grab your favourite takeaway.

Locals have poured out their support and love. Geraldine praises her dedication, while Dee and Helen wish her well for a health-first new chapter. Terri’s journey is a poignant reminder that sometimes life has other plans, and health comes first. Stay tuned for what’s next in her adventure โ she might just surprise us all! ๐๐
