🎇 Celebrating Diwali 7,000 Miles Away! 🎆

As an immigrant, celebrating Diwali away from home seemed daunting. But now, living in Wales, I’ve found a unique way to bring the Festival of Lights to life here. It’s not just a Hindu celebration; Sikhs, Jains, and others also join in, marking moments of spiritual awakening and liberation.

The solution? People. Whether fellow travellers far from their roots or locals embracing new traditions, it’s all about togetherness. Here, traditions adapt: without traditional diyas, we light tea lights and gather with new friends for a spread of home-cooked delights.

Our homes get a deep cleanse – symbolically clearing the way for prosperity as we invite goddess Lakshmi for good fortune. Although we miss family rituals, technology bridges the gap. A family video call from around the world can fill the distance with warmth and connection.
Festivities continue in Cardiff with a potluck of cultural treats. Imagine tasting the best dal ever, cooked by a Welsh friend! Sparklers light up the night sky, a small but meaningful nod to traditional firecrackers.
So, what’s on the cards this Diwali? More of the same: friends, food, light, and just a sprinkling of sparkle. That’s the spirit of Diwali, no matter the distance! ✨🥳
Happy Diwali, everyone! 🪔💖
