Local business hero Dan Parry and a team of investors have stepped up to the challenge. They’ve taken over this historic site, with dreams of transforming it into a versatile community hub, fondly hoping to name it “Porth Central.” Discussions are buzzing about turning it into a cinema, live music venue, and yes, even reviving its bingo nights!
Getting the building back in shape will be no small feat. It’s got some old asbestos that needs careful removal, and a leaky roof that’s seen better days. Yet, this dedicated group is determined. They’re already busy clearing out remnants of the past—like dusty cinema seats and forgotten bingo slips—and sparking plans for the future.
Working closely with council planning officers, the team is exploring every possibility, eager to secure grant funding to kickstart renovations. Feedback from the community will play a vital role, as a survey is in the works to gather local opinions on what the transformed space should offer.
Dan hinted at plans for a flexible venue that caters to a range of public events. “No idea is off the table at this point in time,” he promises. Although opening day isn’t on the calendar just yet, each step they take brings them closer to unlocking this treasure for everyone in Porth to enjoy again.
