π¨ Shocking Stats on Harassment at Cardiff Council π¨

Unite, a prominent trade union, has released striking survey results showing a disturbing trend of workplace harassment at Cardiff Council. According to the poll, a worrying 22% of respondents reported experiencing sexual assault in the workplace. This includes incidents on the job, during commutes, or even at work-related events.

The survey revealed that 35% had been inappropriately touched without consent, and 34% had been subjected to unwanted flirting, gestures, or sexual remarks. Alarmingly, 27% reported being shown porn at work. To top it off, a staggering 69% feel that reports of such incidents have not been properly addressed by management.
One Cardiff Council employee voiced their frustration, stating that management seems more concerned with service numbers than worker safety, claiming, “I have reported it to management, but they’re worried about numbers over employees.”
Unite regional officer Michaela Gilroy condemned the situation, urging Cardiff Council to take a firmer stance: “The results are shocking. Addressing sexual harassment is not optional; itβs about dignity, accountability, and basic human rights.”
Cardiff Council insists on a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, stating that any report made is dealt with according to strict policy and procedures. A comprehensive training programme is currently in place to tackle these issues.
This troubling news sheds light on the urgent need for better protective measures and supportive environments within workplaces across the board. Employees deserve to work in spaces where their dignity and safety are non-negotiable. Let’s hope Cardiff Council heeds this wake-up call and enacts meaningful changes to protect its staff.
