π¨ Quack-tastrophe in Torfaen! π¨ A duck barn built on ancient woodland has ruffled some feathers, as it turns out it was set up without planning permission! π¦π³

Built from July to September 2024, the barn was nestled in the picturesque South West Uplands Special Landscape Area. But despite its charming looks, it’s a real tough quack for the local council. π§π¬

Made with a steel frame and wooden cladding, this 23m x 9m barn even boasts a pitched roof over 5m high! However, Torfaen Borough Council planners aren’t charmed; they’ve rejected a retrospective application to keep it. ππ«
What’s the quack-cus? The barn was intended to support jobs, as claimed by ‘Tunley’ from Blaen y Cwm Farm, but the council’s Simon Pritchard says that’s not enough to justify bending the rules in such a sensitive area. πΏβ
The report pecked away at the project’s credentials, highlighting its unwarranted intrusion into woodland and its adverse effects on ecological features and nearby sites. π±π·
Plus, itβs a bit of a lone ranger, sitting about 270m east of the main farm buildings, which doesnβt align with Welsh planning guidelines. ποΈπ
While the barn remains visible from fields and a public footpath, the swift rise in its construction came at a costβnatureβs been left in the lurch. π³π
What’s your view? Should the barn stay for the sake of jobs, or is preserving our beloved ancient landscapes the real MVP here? ππ Share your thoughts below! π¬π
