Life in Ukraine: a Tale of Two Worlds 🌍💔

By day, Ukrainian cities pulse with life—kids laugh in playgrounds, adults rush to work with coffee in hand. Yet, when night falls, a different world emerges, one haunted by drones, missiles, and explosions. 🇺🇦

At a recent Ukraine Independence Day event in Swansea, we heard powerful stories from Ukrainians living through this harsh reality. Lyudmyla, a teacher, shared how her school now operates in two shifts. Their basement, once a rarely-visited space, is now a haven during air raids. Its capacity limitations mean only half the pupils can fit, prompting shifts for the 1,300+ students. Imagine spending hours of your school day underground, sometimes staying there for nearly the entire day. For these children, each siren signals another trip to safety. 🚨
Kateryna recently returned from Kyiv and described the stark contrast between day and night. Despite the semblance of normalcy under the sun, the darkness brings the “real hell”—constant threats of attack, sleepless nights, and the unseen toll of perpetual stress, causing illnesses and sudden heart issues. 😔
Swansea’s gathering was filled with vibrant traditional costumes, dancing, and a heartfelt community spirit. Organised by Sunflowers Wales, the event raised £1,430 for medical supplies for Ukrainian soldiers. The bonding of displaced Ukrainians, local cadets, and community members, including Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart, was a testament to hope and resilience. 🎉
The challenges Ukrainians face remind us of the strength needed to endure such trying times. Let’s keep supporting and spreading awareness, as every bit of help counts. 🙏 #StandWithUkraine #SupportUkraine #SwanseaSolidarity
