Northampton Saints’ fly-half Anthony Belleau suffered a terrifying injury against Harlequins recently, taking a boot to the face that left him with three missing teeth and a nasty chin gash. Imagine the surprise when, days later, he found one of his teeth on the field!
During a tackle, Belleau was struck in the mouth, leaving a “big hole” in his chin and turning his smile into a dental mystery. Medics recovered one tooth immediately, but it wasn’t until Anthony reviewed the match footage that he was able to track down his third missing tooth back at Franklin’s Gardens!
Speaking with a dash of humour, Belleau said, “It was quite crazy. I felt bad leaving my tooth on the pitch.” Despite the gruesome turn of events, he remains upbeat about his recovery. 🏥
The teeth were temporarily put back, but unfortunately, they couldn’t stay, so implants are on the way. Meanwhile, Belleau, not one to shy away, threw himself back into action just a week post-injury despite advice against it, sporting a special gumshield for protection. Talk about dedication to the game!
Reflecting on his return to action, Belleau shared, “The only risk was if my teeth got an impact, but the gumshield fit really well, so I said, ‘OK, let’s go.'” Even with a mouth full of stitches, the French international didn’t let it slow him down, though Northampton didn’t manage a win in Bordeaux.
