In a heart-wrenching turn of events, 29-year-old Travis Powell tragically lost his life in a motorcycle crash last April. Travis, described by his family as a “cherished son”, collided with a Mini Cooper at a junction on Firbank Avenue in Newport. Witnesses claimed that his motorbike “suddenly appeared” before the accident, with investigations suggesting his speed was over the 20mph limit.

The inquest revealed that Travis’s KTM motorbike hit the Mini with fatal consequences. Although forensic experts couldn’t determine Travis’s exact speed, indications suggest it was well above the legal limit. Eyewitnesses in the area remarked on his motorbike riding “erratically” earlier, raising concerns about his speed.
Travis’s tragic passing was not only a loss for his loved ones and community but also a stark reminder about road safety and the risks of speeding. The inquest brought to light factors like road conditions and visibility obstructions faced by the Mini Cooper driver, who struggled to see the oncoming motorbike.

A toxicology report showed traces of alcohol and cannabis in Travis’s system, though it remains unclear if these had an impact. The Coroner concluded Travis’s injuries were the result of a road traffic collision and expressed heartfelt condolences to his grieving family, describing him as a “doting father” to his two daughters.
As we remember Travis Powell, this inquest sheds light on the importance of abiding by speed limits and the need for both drivers and motorcyclists to exercise caution at all times. Let’s drive safe and look out for one another on our roads. 💔🏍️ #TravisPowell #RoadSafety #GoneTooSoon
