She cleverly crafted a web of deceit with phony emails, flight confirmations, and more, all to support her gambling addiction.
Despite being ordered by the court to pay back her victims, they’ve only seen £25.45 each since July, while Blackwell continues to evade any serious jail time. It’s left her victims feeling frustrated and taken for a ride.
Helen Morse, who came up with empty pockets after insisting on checking with the travel agency herself, shared her disbelief: “You trust people, don’t you? This has made us really cautious now. It’s sad but we feel like we wouldn’t trust anybody again.”
Charlotte’s elaborate scam even coincided with a time when she was deceiving a children’s cancer charity out of £4,000, claiming her daughter needed special treatment. Thankfully, the money was frozen before it ended up in her hands.
The courts gave Blackwell suspended sentences for her frauds, but her victims are still waiting for justice and their money back. While the legal system is following up, the wait is both infuriating and disheartening.
