The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has taken a significant step by locking down its social media presence on X (formerly known as Twitter). This move comes amid concerns over Elon Musk’s AI tool, Grok, and its potential to create unauthorised and inappropriate images online.

In a statement to their 407,000 followers, the RSPB shared: “With reports of Grok being misused to generate non-consensual imagery, we’re taking action to safeguard our staff, volunteers, and supporters. We’ll keep our account private for now, but won’t be posting any new content.”

While X is temporarily off the cards for the RSPB, you can still connect with them on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, and LinkedIn. Plus, their work for nature continues across over 200 reserves in the UK. πΏπ¦
Why all the fuss about Grok? It’s an AI chatbot launched by Musk that can generate images, raising eyebrows about privacy and consent. Even celebrity Maya Jama has voiced concerns, prompting a wave of protective measures online.
So, what’s next? As the tech world grapples with AI’s potential and pitfalls, others are seeking alternative social media platforms. Will you be joining them?
Stay connected with RSPB and keep championing nature! ππ
