In Spain, firefighters are on high alert, especially after a tragic fire near Madrid claimed a life. Thousands have evacuated their homes and holiday destinations, while brave firefighters and soldiers tackle the blazes across the regions of Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Andalusia, and Galicia. Thankfully, some evacuees from the southern beaches have now been allowed to return.

Meanwhile, Portugal’s fires demand the attention of over 700 firefighters, particularly in Trancoso. Smaller blazes nearby add to the challenge.

In Turkey, hearty efforts have managed to control a major fire in north-west Canakkale, but at the cost of relocating 2,000 people, with 77 individuals receiving hospital treatment for smoke inhalation. Fires continue to rage in Manisa and Izmir provinces.

France isn’t spared either, with the south facing intense heat warnings. Despite controlled fires, the threat of reignition looms large, and officials are mandating evacuations, particularly in high-risk areas.

On the Greek island of Zakynthos, urgent evacuations are underway as ferocious winds hinder firefighting efforts. Water-dropping planes and helicopters are stepping in, but the struggle against the flames continues.

Even the UK is feeling the heat, bracing for temperatures up to 34°C in the south. While this might be a brief respite for some seeking summer fun, it underscores how Europe is warming faster than any other continent, doubling the global average since the 1980s.

Stay cool, stay safe, and keep updated on evacuation orders if you’re in affected areas. Let’s all do our part in battling climate change for a more sustainable future! 🌍✨
