A brave railway worker is in a life-threatening condition after trying to stop a knife attack on a busy train, earning the title of a true hero. Passengers described the terrifying ordeal on the evening Doncaster to London King’s Cross service, where many sought refuge in the train’s toilets and buffet car.

Amidst the chaos, it was the quick-thinking train driver, a Royal Navy veteran, who managed to divert the train to a safer track, making an emergency stop at Huntingdon. Despite his own rushed actions, he credits his colleague on the train as the real hero.
Witnesses recalled chilling moments on the train, including a woman pleading for her life and brave passengers using their clothes to stem the hero worker’s injuries. A major police incident was declared, leading to the arrest of two men—one has since been released with no further action. The suspect, a 32-year-old from Peterborough, was detained amid dramatic scenes where he demanded police to ‘kill’ him.

This shocking incident resulted in ten people being hospitalised, although thankfully, five have now been discharged. The police confirmed that the attack was not terror-related but have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in for the train staff member’s bravery, with company officials sending thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Calls are growing for more robust measures to tackle knife crime, with political figures pushing for stricter laws and the implementation of new technologies at key locations.
The Huntingdon station remains closed for investigation, but normal services on the East Coast Main Line are expected to resume soon. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this horrifying episode. Stay safe and stay informed.
