🌟 Brave Little Hero Alert! 🌟

Meet Olly, the 11-year-old from Pontypool who risked it all for his little sister. During a routine fireworks display at Penygarn Baptist Chapel on 5 November, a firework toppled and made a beeline for his two-year-old sis, Daisy. In a courageous split-second decision, Olly shoved Daisy out of harm’s way and took the hit himself. The firework exploded inside his coat, leaving him with severe burns on his neck, fingers, and head.

Mum Charlotte recounted the heart-stopping moment: “It all felt slow-mo and fast at the same time. Olly yelled for his brother Harri to run and spun Daisy around towards me. Then I heard the scream as the firework went off in Olly’s hood.”
Rushed to The Grange University Hospital, Olly’s tenacity has been praised by the Piping Hot Cwmbran band, where he plays the bagpipes. Despite his injuries, he’ll still lay a poppy wreath at Sunday’s remembrance march, a task they say no one is more fitting for.
🏴 To Olly, the local hero, your bravery is inspiring, and we’re rooting for your speedy recovery. 🎶
Unfortunately, the incident left many attendees feeling “traumatised” and swearing off future displays. Charlotte reflects on the experience with deep sadness: “We thought attending an organised event would be safer, how wrong we were.”
To everyone supporting Olly, thank you! Let’s cheer on this young hero as he heals both physically and emotionally. 💪🎉 #HeroOlly #BraveryBeyondYears #GetWellSoonOlly
