Exciting news for South Wales! A massive water project is on the horizon, aiming to revolutionise our water supply. The Cwm Taf Water Supply Strategy is the largest infrastructure initiative ever undertaken by Welsh Water, and it seeks to modernise outdated systems and boost storage capacity for clean water.

Here’s the plan: Welsh Water is proposing to construct a state-of-the-art water treatment works at Dan-y-Castell Farm in Merthyr Tydfil, close to the bustling A465 Heads of the Valleys Road. Additionally, a new pumping station at Pontsticill is set to replace the old facilities.

But that’s not all! An upgrade to the existing Llwyn-onn Water Treatment Works will facilitate the decommissioning of the Cantref Water Treatment Works, a facility that’s been in operation since 1926. This initiative isn’t just about pipes and pumps; it’s a leap towards a resilient, sustainable water supply for nearly half of Welsh Water’s customers.

The community’s voice is vital in shaping this project. Consultations are now open, and Welsh Water wants to hear from you! Share your thoughts on how they can enhance the benefits of this upgrade while minimising any disruptions.
You can meet the project team and dive deeper into the details at one of the upcoming community events:
