💥 Big Changes Coming to Castle Street, Cardiff! 🚧
Exciting times ahead as major improvements are set to begin on one of Cardiff’s key roads, Castle Street. Local businesses are gearing up as the year-long project kicks off to create a permanent road layout and cycleway. The work kicks off on February 2nd with essential surveys and preparation, followed by the main phase starting February 23rd.
What’s in store? A fully segregated cycleway, refreshed road surfaces, upgraded walkways, and a reimagined bus stop area on Kingsway/North Road. It’s all part of a drive to improve air quality and make the city more bike-friendly.
Businesses on Castle Street have mixed feelings. Robert Rice from Castle Welsh Crafts is hopeful but cautious about potential disruptions. Jonathan Williams of Shop Rugby Wales is also concerned about the project’s duration impacting tourism and bus access.
On a positive note, Yasmin Saboor from Lucky Cow supports the changes, recognising the benefits of better roads and more accessible cycling routes.
Cardiff Council assures us that Castle Street and the cycleway will stay open to traffic, except during any necessary resurfacing. They’ll keep everyone updated on any closures.
Cllr Dan De’Ath shares that the temporary scheme resulted in significant air quality improvements. With backing from post-pandemic funding, making the changes permanent aims to enhance safety, accessibility, and support sustainable travel.
