After years of caring for others, former midwife Sally Reeves is now in the fight of her life. At 56, Sally, from Newport, faced a nightmare when her health issues were dismissed as “all in her head.” Feeling frustrated and doubting herself, doctors finally ran the right tests—revealing she’s battling two types of cancer.

Sally’s story started with severe nausea. For weeks, she was told by various doctors that her symptoms were psychological. Despite these doubts, Sally persisted, knowing something was seriously wrong. Her insistence paid off—eventually, a thorough medical check-up found tumours on her kidney and in her oesophagus.

Since the diagnosis, Sally has been through a gruelling medical journey, including surgeries, feeding tubes, and plenty of hospital time. She’s gearing up for FLOT chemotherapy, a rigorous treatment aimed at shrinking the tumours to make surgery possible.

Sally isn’t just a fighter; she’s a beloved wife, mother, and soon-to-be grandmother. Known for her kindness and dedication during her 19 years as a midwife, it’s now time for her family, colleagues, and community to rally around her.
Her daughter, Kellie, says, “Mum has always been our rock. Now it’s our turn to support her every step of the way.” Kellie is calling on anyone moved by Sally’s story to help however they can. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with treatment and associated costs.
Sally’s message is clear: “If you’re told it’s all in your head, don’t stop. You know your body better than anyone.” Her journey underscores the importance of self-advocacy in health.
