Shocking scenes as Matthew Battenbough is arrested for the horrific murder of Leanne Williams in Swansea. This brutal crime saw Battenbough viciously attack Leanne with a knife, scissors, and frying pan in her own flat, before callously covering her body with towels and fleeing the scene.
In a gripping court case, it was revealed that Leanne, a kind-hearted woman known for her love of nature and animals, crossed paths with Battenbough by sheer chance. On that fateful February day, the two met on a Townhill street and returned to Leanne’s flat where they smoked crack cocaine, acquired from goods Battenbough allegedly shoplifted earlier.
Days after this brutal act, authorities captured Battenbough’s movements through CCTV across Swansea city centre, even changing clothes near The Strand. His arrest came on March 1 in Cwmllynfell, 17 miles away, having allegedly sought refuge with his parents.
Despite being sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 20 years to serve, Battenbough has remained silent on his motive or reasoning behind the savage attack. Judge Paul Thomas KC stressed that only the Parole Board could decide his future release, and there’s no guarantee it will ever happen.
