🌊 Cardiff Bay is still dreaming of a floating oasis! The exciting plans for a floating swimming pool and sauna in Mount Stuart Graving Docks, first revealed in December 2022, are yet to make waves. Nordic Urban, the Finnish masterminds behind the project, aim to revitalise the historic site with heated and non-heated pools, saunas, a restaurant, and a bar. 🏊♂️🥂
Back in April 2024, Nordic Urban assured us that the plans were in full swing, but we’re still waiting for tangible updates or a planning application. The project promises not just unique aquatic experiences but also multi-purpose spaces for events and wellness programmes.
Cardiff Council is on board, having approved an in-principle agreement to lease the land necessary for this transformative project. Nordic Urban plans to create a vibrant hub with plenty of outdoor seating and access to water sports, bringing life to a once little-used area.
Meanwhile, Cardiff Bay is evolving with other exciting developments. There’s groundwork afoot for a new 15,000-capacity arena at Atlantic Wharf, complemented by a public square, new hotels, offices, and even a museum. A new tram line is also set to connect these attractions directly to the city centre.
