🏛️ Exciting times ahead for Cardiff! The current leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas, who made waves as the youngest leader back in 2017, is now in the running as a Labour candidate for the 2026 Senedd elections. 🗳️

Huw Thomas, known for his deep roots in the community and a firm commitment to positive change, announced his candidacy, driven by his “experience and vision” to bring fresh perspectives to the Caerdydd Penarth constituency. Originally hailing from Aberystwyth, Huw’s political journey began in 2012 when he was first elected as a councillor for Splott.

But he’s not the only one from Cardiff Council eyeing a seat! Joining him on Labour’s shortlist are fellow councillors Peter Bradbury, Kanaya Singh, and Helen Gunter. Each brings their own unique experience and dedication to the table. Peter Bradbury, from Caerau, brings expertise in children’s services; Kanaya Singh has championed Riverside since 2017, and Helen Gunter is a recent Butetown representative, making strides since 2022.

As the countdown to 2026 begins, Cardiff residents can expect a political shake-up with changes in voting systems and expanded representation. Outgoing members Mark Drakeford and Vaughan Gething have already paved the way for new voices, guaranteeing a fresh batch of ideas for the Senedd’s future.
Stay tuned, Cardiff — the journey to the Senedd 2026 is just getting started! 🌟
