π¦ Big changes in Cardiff! π¦

Traffic in Crystal Glen has dropped a whopping 55% thanks to a new permit gate scheme. Introduced in 2023, this initiative has been a game changer in cutting down on congestion and curbing the neighbourhood rat run. πβ

Local councillors Garry Hunt and Bethan Proctor are celebrating the success, despite a few hiccups along the way. While residents initially faced challenges with the scheme’s rules, like needing a permit to drive through, the drop in traffic has sparked joy in the community. Most people are thrilled with the transformation, says Cllr Hunt.
Key stats:
– Traffic slashed from 9,500 to 4,300 vehicles daily. π
– A 68% decrease in fines for unauthorised entries. πΈπ
– 16% more cyclists using the route. π΄ββοΈπ¨
– 76% fewer speeding vehicles, helped by the speed limit reduction to 20mph. π’
The council is now seeking your thoughts on whether to make this change permanent. Share your views in the ongoing consultation! π£οΈπ
Some residents still wish for more flexibility, especially with visitor and carer permits. Cllr Proctor suggests expanding permit options as a potential improvement.
Overall, it’s a thumbs up for Crystal Glen’s quieter, safer streets! π‘π¦
