While this move was on the cards, the announcement comes right before Cardiff kicks off their United Rugby Championship campaign. The rest of the Cardiff coaching team – Corniel van Zyl, Gethin Jenkins, Jonny Goodridge, and Scott Andrews – will handle the reins for now. Cardiff is already hatching a plan to keep things ticking smoothly in the long run.

Matt shared, “Leaving Cardiff, a club close to my heart, was tough. But the chance to step up in international rugby is one I couldn’t let pass. I’m so grateful to everyone at the club for the amazing journey and the solid foundations we’ve built together.”

Props from Cardiff’s interim MD, Jamie Muir, show the club’s appreciation for Matt’s leadership, highlighting his impact on their progress. They’re keen to kick off the new season positively this Saturday against the Lions.

Matt’s not new to the Wales setup, having led them to a much-needed victory in Japan and gotten them over their 18-Test losing streak. With his hands-on philosophy, he’s bound to bring his A-game alongside former Cardiff coach Danny Wilson and the rest of the Wales team.

Steve Tandy is chuffed to have Matt onboard for real this time, and Cardiff’s loss is certainly Wales’ gain. We’re all wishing Matt the absolute best in his new role and hoping for big wins ahead! 🌟🏉
