💷 **Cash Withdrawals on the Decline!💷**

Who still digs into their wallet for cash these days? According to the latest figures from Link, UK adults popped by the ATM 15 times on average last year. That’s a drop, with folks withdrawing £1,352 in 2025, compared to £1,424 the year before. It’s clear that the cash machine scene is shrinking! 🏧

In 2025, those over the age of 16 made 832 million withdrawals, about 9% less than in 2024. While the trusty ATM remains the top spot for withdrawals, it seems fewer of us are visiting them, but taking out more when we do! Interestingly, Northern Ireland topped the charts as the most “cash heavy” region, with an average of £2,249 withdrawn per person.💵
But it’s a different story in the south west of England, where cash withdrawals dipped below £1,000 for the first time, averaging £974. 🏖️
Link’s deep dive into our cash habits also found that just under half of us (48%) carry a physical wallet, with 51% using cash in the past week. However, over 60% have faced the frustrations of payment failures, sometimes leaving folks to abandon purchases or ask mates for help. 😅
By the end of last year, there was a 5% decrease in cash machines, with 33,710 still free to use and 8,693 charging a fee. Link’s mission? To keep cash within reach for everyone across the UK, even as digital wallets on smartwatches and smartphones gain popularity.
While digital payments are the trendy choice, cash still holds a special place for millions. Let’s see how this unfolds in the coming years! 💳🛍️
