🚨 NHS Alert: Naproxen Users, Listen Up! 🚨

If you’re taking naproxen for pain relief, pay close attention! This popular painkiller, often used for conditions like arthritis and period pain, might cause a rare but serious side effect: a burning or gnawing feeling in your stomach. If you experience this, it’s crucial to stop taking it and see your doctor immediately.

Naproxen, part of the NSAID family with ibuprofen and aspirin, is effective for reducing pain and swelling. Yet, like any medicine, it comes with possible side effects. While most are minor and affect roughly 1 in 100 people—like headaches, dizziness, or rashes—severe stomach issues could signal an ulcer or inflammation.

Men are more prone to stomach ulcers, but that doesn’t mean others are in the clear. If prescribed naproxen, your GP might give you additional meds to protect your stomach, especially if you’re on it long-term. Dosing varies, so ensure you’ve got the right amount for your age and health.
The most noticeable ulcer symptom is a burning pain in the stomach centre, although it may also cause heartburn, indigestion, or nausea. 🤕
If any of this sounds familiar, don’t ignore it! It’s best to consult with your doctor as soon as possible. And remember, any side effects can be reported through the Yellow Card scheme for safety tracking.
Stay informed, take care, and share this with anyone who might need a heads-up. 💙
