🎉 Breaking News from the Valleys! 🎶 Historic Capel Rhondda has been triumphantly saved from the clutches of property developers, thanks to a passionate community campaign! Over £70,000 has been raised by locals to secure this iconic chapel in Hopkinstown, the birthplace of the beloved Welsh hymn, Cwm Rhondda/Bread of Heaven.

Fears of losing this Grade II listed gem spurred residents into action. One determined local sprang into action with a last-minute crowdfunding campaign, drawing heartfelt support from across the globe. Just days later, the keys are now in the hands of the community!
Rhian Hopkins, a local and key campaign leader, beamed with pride: “This purchase shows the amazing things we can achieve together. Our community fundraising success means Capel Rhondda’s future is now guided by local voices, preserving a treasured place for all to enjoy.” 🎵

To celebrate, the Pontypridd Male Voice Choir gathered within the historic walls, filling the chapel with the powerful sounds of Bread of Heaven once again. 🌟
Support also poured in from the Welsh Government with a £10,000 grant from the Perthyn scheme, ensuring the chapel’s bright future. This boost will fund crucial surveys and repairs.

Finance Minister Mark Drakeford visited the chapel to praise the community’s fantastic achievement: “Hearing the hymn in its birthplace was incredibly moving. We’re proud to support the preservation of such a significant cultural landmark.”
Rhian emphasised the journey ahead: “Our Perthyn grant backing lets us take the next steps. Though challenges loom, we’re committed to transforming Capel Rhondda into a welcoming space, where our heritage thrives.”
This project is a shining example of community spirit, with the Welsh language and cultural heritage at its core. Together, they’re creating a vibrant hub that cherishes history while fostering unity. 🏛️✨
