A day at the park turned into a nightmare for a five-year-old boy who suffered life-changing injuries from a dog attack in Mexborough, Sheffield. While playing, the youngster was approached by an off-lead dog, suspected to be a bull breed, which aggressively targeted his face. The brutal incident leaves the child with permanent scarring and has sparked urgent calls for responsible pet ownership.

This tragic event should remind all dog owners of the serious consequences of not controlling their pets in public areas. The child’s injuries required hospital treatment, and a 29-year-old man was arrested, suspected of owning a dangerous dog. He’s out on bail while the dog is confined to police kennels.

Inspector Steve Usher highlighted the importance of keeping dogs on leads, especially around children who can be unpredictable. “Being a responsible owner makes all the difference. Don’t think your dog is incapable of causing harm—any dog can,” he commented.
Officials urge dog owners to be cautious: always walk your dog on a lead in public, be mindful of other dogs, ensure your pet is microchipped and collared, and understand your dog’s behaviour. Let’s work together to prevent such terrifying incidents in our community.
