Major Change Coming to Clydach Terrace! ๐ง๏ธ๐๏ธ

Big news in Ynysybwl, as Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is preparing to demolish 15 homes on Clydach Terrace due to persistent flooding troubles. These houses have been at the mercy of frequent floods, especially during Storm Dennis and Storm Bert. The decision comes after experts concluded there’s no viable way to protect these homes from future floods.
The council plans to purchase these properties for approximately ยฃ2.5 million, providing residents with relocation support covering moving expenses and legal fees. Meetings with affected residents are underway to ensure their housing and well-being needs are adequately addressed.

Why the drastic move? A detailed assessment by Natural Resources Wales ruled out alternative flood defences like a raised wall, citing prohibitive costs under current government funding. Numbers 6a and 6b, perched higher than the others, are the only properties spared from this plan. ๐

Once the council completes these purchases, they aim to demolish the structures and eliminate the flood threat to the area. This bold step prioritises the safety and health of current and future residents. Stay tuned for more updates on how these changes will unfold for the community. ๐กโจ
