David Neal, the millionaire once in the spotlight for his £200,000 donation to a Welsh Labour campaign, is facing fresh scrutiny. One of his companies, Atlantic Recycling, was just slapped with a hefty £68,154 fine for stacking highly flammable waste at their Cardiff site — a dangerous breach pointing to “major environmental harm.” 🌍💥

Meanwhile, the company behind the notorious Withyhedge landfill, Resources Management Limited, also owned by Neal, remains under criminal investigation. The site, infamous for its “unbearable” stench likened by locals to a “stink bomb on steroids,” has been in hot water since it became a focal point of controversy with authorities. 🚨

Since 2024, Natural Resources Wales has been probing the landfill’s odour issues which have reportedly affected residents’ health. The site’s operations were even halted temporarily, and despite legal actions by Pembrokeshire council, no injunction was granted due to procedural technicalities. Legal wranglings aside, the council assures that air quality is being monitored and has shown improvement. 🌿🌬️

This isn’t Neal’s first run-in with the law. His past misdemeanours include illegal waste dumping at the Gwent Levels and the tragic workplace incident where a worker was fatally injured, resulting in a £300,000 fine for Atlantic Recycling. Most recently, Atlantic Recycling’s failure to manage waste stockpiles properly has been described by NRW as the largest they’ve ever encountered.

The unfolding situation has been closely followed by residents and environmental groups, with a strong local campaign, “Stop the Stink,” continuing to voice concerns.
