A beloved village primary school in Ceredigion, Beulah, could soon have a new fate as councillors gear up to sell. Despite community pleas to keep the adjacent land for local use, the council plans to put the former school and its grounds on the open market next month. Closed since 2019 and vacant ever since, the site has been a point of contention. The local council even leased part of the field for community use, but that lease expired earlier this year.

Estimated at £165,000, the property hasn’t enticed any buyers yet, mainly due to its deteriorating condition requiring hefty investment. As of now, the Beulah Community Council’s offer to purchase the field has been declined for not meeting the valuation expectations.
To address local concerns, the council proposes a solution: a restrictive covenant to ensure 10% of the area remains a community play area, no matter who buys it. Some developers have expressed interest already, and it seems a sale could move swiftly.

The council is open to discussions and will potentially allow a six-month window for the community group to gather funds and make a viable proposal before proceeding with the sale. Fingers crossed for a resolution that benefits everyone involved! 🌍🏫✨
