⚠️ Tragedy in Talbot Green: A court has heard harrowing details about the fatal shooting of Joanne Penney, a victim caught in the crossfire of a vicious gang rivalry. On March 9th, this year, Joanne opened her front door only to be met with a bullet to the chest from close range, in what prosecutors are calling a brutal turf war between rival drug dealers.

Joanne’s life was tragically cut short on her doorstep, with the bullet causing fatal damage. The shooting happened at a residence linked with drug use, but it wasn’t Joanne’s home. Prosecutors argue that this deadly encounter was orchestrated by gangs looking to stake their claim in the area’s drug trade.
Six individuals are currently on trial at Cardiff Crown Court, facing charges linked to Joanne’s murder. Among the accused is Marcus Huntley, alleged to have pulled the trigger, but the prosecution claims each defendant played a significant role under a “joint enterprise” framework.

The rivalry allegedly involves a Leicester-based gang called “Rico OCG,” led by defendant Joshua Gordon, and a local group led by someone known as Daniel Joseph, or “Jimmy.” The Leicester crew’s move into South Wales aggravated the local group, leading to this deadly standoff.
Ahead of the shooting, tensions were high, with incidents of humiliation and confrontation between the gangs. The court has heard that discussions of obtaining a firearm were aimed at sending an intimidating message to rivals.
All six defendants deny the murder charges. Huntley and Jordan Mills-Smith have admitted to involvement in organised crime activities, while others also face charges relating to gang activities.
As the trial unfolds, the courtroom awaits further revelations about this tragic event. Our thoughts are with Joanne Penney’s loved ones at this difficult time. 💔
