Court sets date for trial of suspect charged with attempted assassination of military officer

A trial date is finally set for Anthony Esan, 25, who stands accused of the attempted murder of Lt Col Mark Teeton outside Brompton Barracks, Kent. The shocking incident occurred last July when Lt Col Teeton was critically stabbed in Sally Port Gardens. Since then, the case faced multiple delays due to examinations of Esan’s mental health and his ability to stand trial. The Maidstone Crown Court has now pencilled in February 2nd for the trial, which is expected to last three to four weeks, pending further psychological evaluations. Esan, who also faces charges for carrying a bladed weapon, will participate in a plea hearing via video from Broadmoor Hospital this November. Thankfully, Lt Col Teeton is on the road to recovery; a GoFundMe initiative has already gathered nearly £50,000 to aid his medical journey and support his family. Keep your eyes here for more updates as this case unfolds.
