A deeply disturbing case is unfolding at Newport Crown Court as a man stands accused of rape. The court heard harrowing details of a night where the alleged victim’s repeated pleas for him to stop were shockingly ignored. Prosecutor Niklas Strobl described how the woman resisted and voiced her refusal, only for her objections to be callously disregarded. The accused, Paul Hallisey, is alleged to have dismissed her desperate cries, telling her he was “enjoying it.”

The woman recalled feeling trapped and powerless during the attack, which she described as a nightmare. After the alleged assault, the man reportedly turned away and fell asleep, leaving the woman in shock and distress.

The next morning, the jury was shown texts from the woman accusing Hallisey of rape, to which he repeatedly replied that he didn’t remember the incident and suggested she should have physically resisted. In her testimony, the alleged victim explained her decision to text rather than confront him, citing fear of him as the reason.

Strobl says the woman sought support from those close to her and reported the incident to the police. Hallisey, however, insists the encounter was consensual.
This trial is expected to continue for several days with further evidence and testimonies to be presented. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of consent and the devastating impact such incidents can have on victims.
