A serious safety warning has been announced following a tragic explosion at Treforest Industrial Estate in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The accident, which occurred in December 2023, claimed the life of 40-year-old Danielle Evans. A faulty sublimation calendar machine, manufactured by Diferro, is believed to be the cause. This is the same type of machine that was involved in another devastating warehouse fire in Swindon last month.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has raised “significant concerns” about the safe use of these Turkish-made machines. There’s an ongoing investigation into their design and potential link to the incidents in both Treforest and Swindon. In light of these events, the HSE is taking steps to prevent further imports of the machines and has issued a strong warning to all users: never leave the machines unattended while connected to power. If there’s any uncertainty, it’s best not to use them at all.
Luke Messenger, head of technical product safety at HSE, emphasized the importance of following safety guidance to prevent any further tragedies. He stated, “We never want to see a repeat of the fatality in 2023 or the recent catastrophic explosion in Swindon.”
